An abstract way of looking at it . . . .

Right at the top is the far horizon of real life - cities and boats, smoke from chimneys and people.

Below that, and coming towards you, is the relatively calm, flat surface of everyday living

And then you come to the edge . . . .

Something has caused you anxiety . . . and down you go, (an arrow marks the spot) down, into the mire and mud; - the stagnant pool of your depression (a dot marks the spot).

And there is still the risk that you will fall even deeper as the water cascades on down into the deeper quarry depths.

And the three birds of Rhiannon wheel and cry in the air as you fall further or climb with difficulty back up to normality.
