The ‘Chess' Series

In every painting in this series you will find one small white pawn.
Every individual is always alone in this world, a pawn on the board of life, an island in a misty sea of dimly comprehended chaos; and, by the rules of the game, no-one can occupy the same square at the same time as you.
And, filled as we are, with divine discontent, we strive, drive, and struggle towards some far distant crazy ideal. (like Lancelot in the ‘Arthur' series)
No-one else can achieve those ideals for us, although those who love us will hope to help and those against us will try to hinder.
Goaded and guided by these hopes and ideals we play the game. Trying to reach the far side of the board and so become Queen – achieve riches, fame, fortune, happiness?
And the other pieces are either against us or helping us.
