Arthur series. Once and Future King.

                       The Once and Future King.

Oil on Canvas.     100cm high.        125cm wide.         £1,200.

                            (approx 3'4”)       (approx 4ft)

The large blue wave-forms represent Arthur and Guinevere when young and full of hope; above them the Red Dragon of Old Brithain.

The black-line figure on the left is Sir Lancelot charging around looking for the Holy Grail (as we all do - after our own, probably unattainable, grails).

The smaller red-line drawing is Arthur grown older with the cares of state on his back. Note the dog, Cabal, forming his shoulders. We read that he always had a war dog called Cabal with him; more than one dog during his lifetime. The sword ‘Excalibur' forms the back of his cloak.

The boat, coming from Avallon to bear away his dead body; and the ice on either side, Arthur and his companions are still somewhere, sleeping, frozen, (on Ynys Enlli? – The Island of Bardsey) awaiting their call to return and again restore Brithain to chivalrous greatness.

Merlin

                                  Merlin

Oil on canvas.     120cm high.        90cm wide.         £600

                        (approx 4ft)      (approx 3ft)

Lancelot

                    Lancelot and Merlin.

Water colour on paper.     54cm high.        68cm wide.         £145.

                        (approx 1'9)      (approx 2'2)

Still charging around; getting help from Merlin, still not finding the Holy Grail!

Red Dreagon of Brithain

          'The Red Dragon of Brithain.'

King Uther - Arthur's father - wanted to build a castle on Dinas Emrys near Bethgelert in North Wales but the walls kept falling down so he consulted Merlin (shown in the painting as Uther's shadow)

Merlin told Uther that there was a lake under where he was trying to build and in the lake were two dragons, one white, one red, who were fighting. Uther needed to drain the lake and release the dragons - which he did and the dragons then fought in the air with the Red Dragon of Brithain beating the White Dragon of the Sais (Saxons).

Very symbolic!  Note the figure of Launcelot still charging around. Dinas Emrys is in reality, as in the painting, down near the lake.

Oil on canvas.  122cm high,   92cm wide.

                              (4ft)              (3ft)

  £600.     unframed.
